5-8 P.M., Sunday, September 26th - TENNIS MIXER PARTY @ BERKSHIRE WEST ATHLETIC CLUB

$25 includes 3 hrs. of Mixed and Men's Doubles RR on the 5 indoor courts, plus food and bar/lounge.

This is a fundraiser in recognition of the advancement of 2 teams to the USTA Nationals in Tucson, AZ.  Many of these players are members at both BWAC and Lee CTA. We'd like to think that it's the combined play in our summer leagues and BWAC USTA League Tennis that's helped them build the skills to reach this incredible level. This is the first time a team from the Berkshires has advance this far and only 3 teams out of over 100 from the Berkshires and Pioneer Valley (WMA) have gone so far this year!

Don't miss out on a great party!  Come support us in raising funds for the travel expenses of  Laurie Andretta's Deuces Wild Mixed Doubles Team, and David Dutra's Berkshire Marvels Men's 3.0 Team. You probably know some of the team members. Click here to see all the team members.

 Summer News Flashes!!!

Over 200 adults have played in the Adult League Program this summer. The leagues finish up the last week in August, but free play remains throughout the Fall on the beautiful red clay courts at Greenock Country Club for all league players.

The Sept. 1st US Open Trip was a sellout, as always. Of course, we attended on one of those most brutally hot days, but no rain! Joanne Barker & Millie Kirby were the lucky winners of the President's Box raffle, so they had an unbelievably deluxe day. (By the way, the raffle earned over $2300 for our youth programs.) Us other 53 peons saw lots of top players close up on the many outer courts and smaller stadiums. Can't wait until next year!

Over 60 players enjoyed great food and friendships at the Sept. 2nd Awards Dinner at Greenock Country Club. Highlight of the evening was Lifetime Achievement Awards given to volunteers Arline Breskin, Wray Gunn, & Ray Grogan. Lynn Weber was the happy recipient of the grand door prize - a Canyon Ranch Spa Renewal Day! Championship Trophies were given to Mixed Doubles, Bunnie Lahey & Bob Sanders; Women's  Fixed Partners, Cathy Miller & Turbi Smilow; Men's 3.5/4.0 Singles, Bob Barrow; Men's Fixed Partners, Bob Barrow & James Schumacher; Women's Select Dbls., Maddie Krietman; Women's Director's Dbls., Elissa Furlong; Men's Super 8 Dbls., Floyd Grossman; World Team Tennis, Bunnie Lahey, Capt., Joanna Fribush, Brenda Daehling, Terri Flynn, David Rice, Bob Sanders, Ed Lahey, & Adam Daehling. MVP Trophies were given to Men's 3.5 Dbls., Paul Smilow & Ed Lahey; Women's 3.0 Dbls., Lina Grogan; Women's 3.3 Dbls., Sandy Stonberg.

The August 28th Mixed Doubles Tournament Fundraiser drew 10 doubles teams, who played in 2 RR flights of 5 at Greenock Country Club and the Lee High School Courts. Floyd Grossman & Thea Baker finished off Steve Glick & Janice Thomson for the Championship! A big thank you to all who participated, helping us raise over $600 for our youth programs.

Congratulations to our Lee CTA 14U Junior Team in their 4th place finish in the WMA JR Team Tournament! Coach DeWitt Thomson's Youth Tennis Program culminated with the weekend tournament for all WMA junior teams at Forest Park.  Thomson views this summer team tournament "as part of our summer tradition and kids gear towards that date, starting with their Saturday morning play in the Spring. The kids are aware that they'll be on a larger stage come Fall, they set their goals for the future - what do I need to work on? This is reflected in our successful local high school tennis program!"

The  Women's Power Breakfast and Chester Theater & Luncheon this past summer were very enjoyable & delectable fundraisers thanks to volunteer Arlene Breskin.

The Special Olympics Program led by Bunnie Lahey last Spring was a great success with 24 participants, including a gold medal winner at the State Special Olympics in Boston!
