2013 Winter/Spring News

YOUTH QUICKSTART TENNIS, JR TEAM TENNIS PLAY, & SPECIAL OLYMPICS TENNIS are ongoing Saturday mornings in Lee and Pittsfield through May. We have over 46 children playing at the Lee MS/HS Tennis Courts 9am-Noon, and a dozen special olympians at Miss Hall's School in Pittsfield. Please go to our Facebook Page to see photos of these programs.

TENNIS TEACHERS' WORKSHOP 4/26 CLICK HERE to see the PR about our workshop. So cool!

ADULT TENNIS MIXER FRIDAY 4/12 We held our last tennis mixer indoors at Berkshire West AC, despite the snow!  10 players mixed around in some exciting matches & then all gathered in the upstairs bar with bartender, Ben, for Hawaiian pizza & birthday cake - perfect night with both old & new tennis friends! We love organizing these special events and Ben says they're the best nights @ BWAC, all for a good cause, raising scholarship funds for the kid's JR Development.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT FRIDAY 4/5 We had lots of kids try out our QuickStart tennis at this first ever event hosted by the Lee schools to display the many sports and activities available to children in the area. Our new Spring Youth Tennis Director, Sam Blache, oversaw the games run by several of the high school tennis team members, Lee CTA Board Secretary, Kathy DeVarennes, and Bunnie Lahey, Executive Director. Thanks to Joe Winston, Tony Xiong, Maddie DeSantis, & Jack Harding for running the prize tennis court, obstacle course, and hula hoop contests. The kids took home plenty of loot, from t-shirts to toys & candy - and they got to test out their tennis skills! Thanks to Janet Warner, LES PE Teacher, for organizing this wonderful fun night for familes!

LEE HS/MS TENNIS COURT PROJECT Resurfacing, crack repair, and line painting have been completed on the 6 Lee MS/HS Tennis Courts. They are beautiful and open to the public on weekends until the end of the high school tennis season mid-June. The wheelchair accessible path and drainage improvements will be completed in early spring. We received approval for the $17,400 grant from USTA towards this $87,400 project. Thanks to Tri-Town Rotary for closing out our fund drive with a $6000 donation. They are interested in continuing with us as a sponsor of our youth programs, especially our college scholarship program.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW BOARD MEMBERS Donna Piretti, Sam Patel, and Glenn Keiderling. They join Tonio Palmer, President; Bob Mitchell, Treasurer; Kathleen DeVarennes, Secretary; & board members Arlene Breskin, Norma Comalli, and Wayne Donelon. We greatly appreciate their support in bringing tennis to all our Berkshire families!
